HOW TO
Peel and Seed a Pomegranate

There is nothing mysterious about removing the seeds from a pomegranate --and you don't have to stain your cloths with their ruby red juice. It's all done underwater in a bowl.

  1. Slice off the stem and blossom ends and score the fruit from top to bottom.

  2. Submerge the pomegranate in a bowl of water, then break it apart.

  3. Under the water, the spongy seed casing will float to the top of the bowl and the tasty seeds will sink to the bottom. Any burst seeds that would normally bloody your shirt will leak into the water, sparing you the mess.  The trick is to make sure that the fruit is completely submerged while breaking apart.

  4. Use a strainer to scoop all of the spongy casing off the top, then drain the water in a colander to catch all of the seeds.
