Italian Street Painting Festival and
Scrumptious Antipasti Recipes
A recent day trip up the road to San Rafael proved satisfying for all five senses—including the palate. Modeled on traditional Italian street painting festivals, the San Rafael event draws artists from miles around, each armed with a box of chalk and tons of talent. Strolling through the bustling town, we took in a kaleidoscope of brilliant artwork, plus plenty of delectable Italian food and free-flowing wine. Similar festivals can be found all over the country during the summer, but even if your only local artists are the neighborhood kids, it’s easy to recreate the casual, stylish mood of San Rafael. Just whip up a few sparkling bellinis, set out a selection of quick antipasti and fire up a CD of classic Italian tunes. Bellissimo! |

French Onion
Soup Recipe
I take a little liberty with my “French” onion soup, adding parmesan cheese rather than the typical gruyere. I also call for more onions than most, to make sure that every spoonful has plenty of flavor and texture.
