Jene Chapanar's Fro-Zin Martini recipe.
Fro-Zin Martini

The wild Fro-Zin Martini is from winemaker and journeyman builder, Jene Chapanar. His winery— J. Cole—is located in the wine country at Healdsburg, CA. Jene’s a regular at Willi’s Seafood restaurant, where he turned the crew onto the new-age martini after selling them his late-harvest dessert zinfandel, also called
Fro-Zin.

Ingredients
Serves 1
Simple Syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Drink
2 ounces vodka*
2 ounces Late-Harvest Zinfandel*
1/2   lemon, juiced
1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
    lime twist for decoration

*Both Jene and Willi’s restaurant recommend Grey Goose vodka; any high-end vodka will do. Jene and Willi’s also recommend J. Cole Fro-Zin Late Harvest Zinfandel; any high-residual-sugar dessert-style zinfandel will work. In a pinch any late-harvest red wine will work, but NOT port or fortified red wines (wines with added alcohol). In a true crisis, you may substitute 1 oz. regular zinfandel and 2 oz. simple syrup.

Directions

Simple Syrup:
1. Combine the sugar and water in saucepan and heat over medium flame until sugar is fully dissolved. Allow to cool undisturbed.

Drink

2. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

3. Garnish with a lime twist.

Preparation time: Several minutes.
