Classic coleslaw is a picnic staple, and with good reason. Nothing compares to its tangy crunch–especially alongside great burgers or ribs. Summertime on a plate!

1 | medium head | cabbage, shredded |
2 | medium | carrots, grated |
1/2 | medium | onion, minced |
1 | cup | best-quality mayonnaise |
3 | tablespoons | cider vinegar |
1 | tablespoon | Dijon mustard |
3/4 | teaspoon | salt |
3/4 | teaspoon | freshly ground black pepper |
- Combine the cabbage, carrots and onion in a spacious bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper.
- Pour the dressing over the vegetables and mix well.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate 6 to 8 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to develop.
- Remove from the refrigerator and adjust the seasonings before serving.
