7-Minute Frosting

When it comes to satisfying a sweet tooth, there’s nothing quite like a fine fluffy forkful of 7-minute frosting. And the process of whipping ordinary egg whites into gleaming, airy peaks can only be described as fun!

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup water
2 egg whites
1 1/2 teasponns vanilla
Directions

 

  1. Place sugar, cream of tartar, salt, water and egg whites in a small metal bowl or the top of a double boiler.
  2. Beat with a handheld electric mixer for 1 minute.
  3. Place the pan or bowl over simmering water, being sure that the water does not touch the bottom of the bowl.
  4. Beat constantly on high speed with an electric mixer for 7 minutes, until light and fluffy.
  5. Remove from heat and beat in the vanilla. Continue beating for a few minutes longer until frosting is cool. Frost cake.

15–20 minutes.
