Local U-Pick Organic Fruits
Apples, Asian Pears, and Blackberries at the
Gabriel Farm in
Sebastopol, California
Apple picking is the quintessential autumn excursion. In addition to bringing in a bounty of fabulous fruit, a pick-it-yourself adventure is also a great way to support your local growers and educate kids on the origins of their food.
Our harvest jaunt took us to the Gabriel Farm in Sebastopol, CA, where crisp Macintosh apples and late-season blackberries awaited our eager fingers. The farmer surprised us with a box of the seasons' first Asian pears.
A trusty wagon proved invaluable for transporting heavy fruit—and even heavier kids. Back home in the kitchen, apple pie was an immediate priority. Unlike more fragile summer fruits, however, sturdy apples needn't be rushed to the oven. Store them in the frige, and they'll hold up just fine for cooking for at least a couple of weeks. That's plenty of time to try out all of our tempting recipes! |

Guinness
Chocolate Cake
You won’t be able to identify the flavor of beer in this dark, intense treat—you’ll just note that it’s one of the moistest and most flavorful chocolate cakes you’ve ever tasted. A dollop of sweet whipped cream is all you need to achieve true chocolate perfection.
