Drink Recipe

Mexican hot chocolate features a distinctive flavor unlike the typical cocoa of Europe or the U.S. Made from chocolate disks pre-seasoned with sugar, cinnamon and almond flavor, the beverage is warmed to a simmer, then whisked vigorously before serving.

4 cups whole milk
2 disks Mexican chocolate
~ cinnamon sticks, for decoration
*A standard kitchen whisk works fine here, but many Mexican cooks prefer to use a molinillo – a wooden implement designed specifically for the task. You can find a molinillo online at, or check out your local Hispanic market.
