
There’s really nothing better than a freshly baked biscuit. But add bacon and cheddar, and you have something truly extraordinary. Prepare a batch to compliment your next dinner, as a morning treat or—well, really there’s no bad time for these.



10 | strips | bacon, fried and cut into 1/4-inch horizontal pieces, then halved |
2 | cups | flour |
1 | tablespoon | baking powder |
1 | teaspoon | salt |
1/3 | teaspoon | cayenne pepper |
1/4 | cup | dehydrated onions * |
1/2 | cup | Crisco shortening |
1 | cup | milk |
1 | cup | sharp cheddar cheese, shredded |
*Find dehydrated onions in the spice section of your local supermarket.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silt pad. Pre-heat oven to 425°F.
- In a medium bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, cayenne pepper and onions until incorporated.
- Cut the shortening into the dry ingredients with a pastry cutter or two knives.
- Stir in the milk, cheese and bacon until just combined. Be careful not over mix.
- Form the biscuits using a 2 1/4-inch ice cream scoop or 1/4-cup measuring cup and place on the baking sheet. Note: You should end up with 12 biscuits. If you overfill the scoop or cup, expect about 9 biscuits.
- Set the baking sheet on the center oven rack of the pre-heated oven.
- Bake for 20–22 minutes or until biscuits are a pale golden color.
- Serve warm.
