Cream Cheese Frosting

3/4 cup butter, room temperature
12 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons freshly grated lemon zest
*Cream cheese must be brought to room temperature or the frosting will be lumpy. Allow it to sit out for 8 hours, or overnight, before using.
  1. In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to cream butter and cream cheese.
  2. On low speed, add the powdered sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest.
  3. Increase the speed and beat until light and fluffy.
