
Utterly simple to prepare, this deep, dark frosting is ideal for cute Halloween cupcakes. As for the taste, who’s not going to love a basic blend of butter, sugar, cocoa and vanilla?



6 | tablespoons | unsalted butter, softened |
1/2 | cup | black onyx cocoa* |
2 2/3 | cups | confectioner’s sugar |
1/3 | cup | milk |
1 | teaspoon | vanilla |
*Locate black onyx cocoa at Savory Spice Shop or King Arthur’s Flour |
- In small bowl cream the butter until light and fluffy.
- Sift in about half of the cocoa and confectioner’s sugar and mix well.
- Add about half the milk and mix well.
- Repeat with the remaining dry ingredients and milk, beating until fluffy and spreadable. (Add a bit more milk if the frosting seems too stiff.)
- Blend in vanilla.
