
John Scharffenberger’s Favorite Chocolate Brownies Recipe
Created by legendary chocolate maker John Scharffenberger, this simple recipe harnesses the pure power of premium chocolate to dazzling effect. Don’t even try to resist.
Ingredients
| 6 | ounces | best quality bittersweet chocolate, chopped |
| 3/4 | cup | butter |
| 1 1/2 | cups | sugar |
| 3 | eggs | |
| 1 | teaspoon | vanilla |
| 1 | cup | flour |
| 1 | cup | chopped nuts (optional) |
Directions
Preheat oven to 325-degrees. Butter a 13" x 9" x 2" baking pan.
- Melt the chocolate and butter together in a double boiler or microwave.
- Stir the sugar into the chocolate.
- Add the eggs and vanilla and stir to blend.
- Stir in the flour and nuts.
- Spread into the prepared pan.
- Bake 30–35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes up with crumbs (not batter).
- Cool in pan.
