
Created by legendary chocolate maker John Scharffenberger, this simple recipe harnesses the pure power of premium chocolate to dazzling effect. Don’t even try to resist.



6 | ounces | best quality bittersweet chocolate, chopped |
3/4 | cup | butter |
1 1/2 | cups | sugar |
3 | eggs | |
1 | teaspoon | vanilla |
1 | cup | flour |
1 | cup | chopped nuts (optional) |
Preheat oven to 325-degrees. Butter a 13" x 9" x 2" baking pan.
- Melt the chocolate and butter together in a double boiler or microwave.
- Stir the sugar into the chocolate.
- Add the eggs and vanilla and stir to blend.
- Stir in the flour and nuts.
- Spread into the prepared pan.
- Bake 30–35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes up with crumbs (not batter).
- Cool in pan.
